Premier personal protection products -- that’s what Damsel In Defense is about. Think Charlie’s Angels and their spy tools. This multi-level marketing company offers self-defense products for women that are less lethal, more stylish.
The company was founded by Mindy Lin and Bethany Hugh in 2011 -- both moms and victims of sexual assault.
Before founding Damsel In Defense, Bethany had built a company called Hughes Security Solutions with almost the same mission -- to provide self-defense but through information. It also comes with a retail business.
Mindy, on the other hand, was a Mary Kay Cosmetics distributor and since they both share the same passion with self-protection and with Mindy experiencing some financial troubles, they decided to build Damsel In Defense.
According to their website, their goal is not only to promote products that would protect women from assault; they also provide an opportunity for women to learn, be empowered, and make money.

Like most MLM companies, their products are being promoted in-home parties, which they call Empower Hours.
At first, they were aiming to recruit 100 people to grow their business but perhaps, because of the goal and products, they ended up with around a thousand women.
After their successful launch, they received recognition, such as the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) (2013), A Rising Star Award (2016), Vision For Tomorrow (2017), and an Excellence in Salesforce Development (2018).
They were also able to found safe houses in India and Cambodia, which they call the Damsel House Project. These safe houses are created to rescue girls from sex trafficking.
Damsel In Defense Product Line
The main products of Damsel In Defense are designed for women’s security. They also offer a kit called Hermergency, which “contains the essentials to handle anything from a broken nail to a dead car battery.”
What made their product line more interesting are the product names and slogans, such as “Leaf Me Alone” whistle.
On their website, there’s a tab called “SHOP” and when you click this, it will show various categories, including Stun Devices, Pepper Sprays, Security On The Go, Concealed Carry Purses, RFID Protection, SAFE Hearts Family Education, Digital Defense.
Their devices, which come in different colors, such as pink and black, are meant to immobilize attackers without killing them, however, you should know that for some states, it’s against the law to carry a stun gun or pepper spray.
Other than taser guns, they also have board games, lunch boxes, dish sets, and books.

Being an MLM structure, you make money with Damsel In Defense by first, selling the products based on its suggested retail price.

Damsel In Defense is not a scam. It’s a legit MLM company with interesting products and mission. It’s even accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) with an A+ rating so yes, that makes it more appealing.
It’s also good to know that there’s little to no complaints against the product. In fact, in BBB alone, there are only positive reviews about the brand which is unusual for an MLM since this kind of business model is often bombarded by negative feedback.
Also, unlike most MLM companies that flaunt their luxury lifestyles, their brand is not misleading. While they do mention their Independent Damsel Pros (distributors) “experiencing financial freedom,” it’s not as bold as the others.
The problem with MLM opportunities, often, is that they are exaggerated when it comes to the possible lifestyle that their distributors will get when they join their company. As a result, interested individuals expect a lot and because the business is too challenging, some distributors end up with nothing, not even their investment back.
By this, we mean about the luxury cars, bundles of cash, and luxurious jewelry that most MLM members show on their social media to lure people in joining their team. While the opportunity is real, this often means selling overpriced products and recruiting family and friends.

Damsel In Defense is still new to the industry but it’s good to know that it’s recognized by the Direct Selling Association, which means that it’s a legit company with a legit business opportunity.
It has also received several recognitions and awards as stated above.
Raise Sexual Awareness
In the US alone, 1 out of 6 women have experienced sexual assault and often, these victims chose to suffer in silence because of several reasons, such as the fear of being blamed, shamed, and/or ignored.
Companies with the same mission as Damsel In Defense help not only in raising awareness about sexual assault but also, it might help reduce the number of assaults. That being said, this kind of goal is worth commending as not many people are brave enough to address this problem.

No Income Disclosure Statement
Despite being a good brand (and a brand that we actually liked), Damsel In Defense has failed to share one of the most important details about it -- its Income Disclosure Statement.
This is important as this gives aspiring distributors an idea of what they should expect from the brand, specifically the average amount that their current members are making. I’m not sure about the reason why Damsel In Defense did not provide their Income Disclosure Statement; it might be because their members are not earning enough or none of their members earn at all.
Limited In Some States
Some states will not allow you to carry pepper sprays and taser guns, which means that as a distributor, your market is limited.
Also, while the product is somehow unique in the MLM industry, we’re pretty sure that many other brands are promoting similar products so as a member, it’s up to you how you can make your products stand out.
