Multi-level marketing (MLM), despite the negative stigma, can make an ordinary opportunity sound special. For instance, a typical weight-loss coffee can seem like a life-changing product; a simple compensation plan can sound like a promising one, thanks to its incentives and bonuses.

And now, a typical nail brand was able to build hype over their products and opportunity in less than 7 years. If you’re wondering what I’m talking about, it’s the GelMoment networking company.

Founded in 2014 by Dov Grossnass, GelMoment is a multi-level marketing company that mainly promotes nail polish. It’s similar to Jamberry Nails and Color Street Nails in terms of the opportunity and products sold.

Perhaps, what sets the Canadian brand apart is their one-coal gel nail polish system, which allows their product to dry up in sixty seconds, and we’ll discuss more of this in a while. For now, let’s talk about the founder.

Dov, who’s also the current CEO of GelMoment, has also handled various brands in the past, such as Belvada (a cosmetic company) and Mosaic Sales (a skincare brand).

Other than these, he’s also established an online coupon company and a school for underprivileged children.

Considering this, Dov has a solid grasp of businesses, particularly the ones in the beauty niche.

GelMoment Product Line

As mentioned, their main product is a one-coat nail polish in gel form. It dries up in less than a minute and doesn’t require any topcoat or a base coat. 

If you’re a fan of nail polish, this is a brilliant idea since you don’t have to wait for your new polish to dry up before you can hold or touch another thing. Other than that, they also have LED lamps, nail accessories, nail art tools, hair spa, face spa, beauty spa, and body spa essentials, and tea and tea tools.

As of now, they have over 5,000 independent distributors in Australia, Canada, UK, and the US.

For their price, GelMoment’s nail polish and other products are expensive. For instance, one bottle of Gel Polish costs $25 and the sad thing about this is that you can see almost similar products in the marketplace for a cheaper price.

GelMoment is not a scam. 

It’s a legit business model that follows an MLM structure. It has products you can sell and make money from and an opportunity to earn more through recruitment commissions. It doesn’t solely rely on inviting people; however, there are a few drawbacks, such as the required monthly personal retail sales.

The brand is not also transparent with its Income Disclosure Statement (IDS).

As a business that offers an opportunity to make money, it’s just fair to provide aspiring distributors the information they need, such as the IDS to know what they are about to expect in the business.

You’re going to spend tons of money here and it’s crucial to understand if there’s really an opportunity at GelMoment or if it’s just overhyped.

GelMoment is not a pyramid scheme or a Ponzi scheme. It follows an MLM structure, which most people think is a scam anyway.

However, the business model of networking is legit as there’s really an opportunity to make money here. There are products, tangible or digital, that members can sell to earn retail profits.

While there’s recruitment, members are not directly compensated for just inviting a new member; instead, they receive commissions if their downline or team makes a sale. 

A pyramid scheme, on the other hand, relies on the invitation. This means you need to invite another person so you can earn a commission. 

Basically, the money used to buy into the membership is used to pay for your compensation.

Not only is this illegal; it’s also unstable because when recruitment stops, your profit halts also.

The same thing with Ponzi schemes; the business model itself is illegal. What makes it different from a pyramid scheme, however, is that you only need to invest a certain amount of cash so you can earn an ROI. while it looks promising, this is a telltale of a scam so be sure to double-check how the program really works before signing up.

Basically, there are two ways to make money at GelMoment.

The first one is through retail sales, which can be done by selling their nail polish and other products using your replicated website or in-home parties.

For the basic level, you can earn at least 15% retail commissions however, you need to be qualified first. This means having at least $200 worth of Personal Retail Sales (PRS) every 90 days or at least $67 every month.

As you level up, your commission also increases from 25% up to 50%.

Again, the pricing of their products is steep so it would be a challenge for you as a distributor not only to maintain the PRS but also to sell their nail polish.

Another way to make money here is to recruit others to join your team. However, unlike other MLM, you need to increase your rank to Gossip Girl to be qualified for commission. This means generating a one-time order of PRS worth $500, a monthly PRS worth $250, and a total of $450 from your team sales.

It’s not as easy as it sounds because again, the pricing of their products is expensive. Also, you need to spend time training your team for a chance to generate more sales so unless you’re doing this full-time, it won’t be easy.

Anyway, once you are qualified for recruitment commissions, you’ll earn at least 3% on your first and second levels.

Now, if you want to earn higher commissions from recruitment, you have to increase your rank again and that means achieving a higher PRS quota.

To become a distributor of GelMoment’s products, you have to purchase an enrollment package worth $99.

The package includes their products, marketing tools, and a personal website you can use to sell your essentials.

However, you can’t just join by paying for it; you need to have a sponsor first and in case you don’t know anyone, GelMoment will help you find one near your area.

FYI, you need to maintain at least $200 worth of products every 90 days to keep your account active and qualify for commissions.

New distributors, on the other hand, need to maintain a $500 worth of personal retail sales to be qualified for the fashionista rank.

Once the rank is fashionista level, the distributor must maintain at least $250 to $700 personal retail sales to be eligible for downline commissions.

While the business package is quite affordable compared to other MLM companies, the amount you need to keep your account active and be eligible for commissions is expensive.

Not only that, it’s a pay-to-play system wherein you need to pay tons of cash first before you earn bonuses and commissions.

As a business, you should know that these are not the only expenses you need to shoulder so unless you really patronize their products, it’s best to ignore GelMoment and look for a better offer.

PROS

Legit MLM Company With A Unique Product

Perhaps, the only good thing about GelMoment is that they are legit.

The brand has been operating since 2014, offering an almost unique nail product. I say almost because it’s rare to see a quick-dry, all-in-one nail polish but if you look at the marketplace, there’s a good chance that you’ll find a similar product at a lower price.

Limited Market

While there are people spending money on nail art, most of them would rather spend a hefty amount on a salon. Meanwhile, those who prefer to do their nails at home might consider a cheaper alternative to save money.

That being said, your market for expensive gel nail polish as well as your income is limited.

Expensive Products And Fees

Joining GelMoment as affordable as you need to spend $99 for the business package; however, if you want to qualify for commissions, you need to spend more than $200 every 3 months.

Remember, the number of commissions you get depends on your rank and that means spending more.

Meanwhile, a bottle of their nail polish costs $25 so unless you can easily find someone who’s willing to spend that hefty amount, it’s best to look for another option.

GelMoment’s Independent Distributors have access to training manuals online. This can be used to learn more about the products and sales strategy.

It’s good to know that GelMoment is a legit MLM company and that the founder has solid experience in handling a business, particularly the ones related to beauty. However, their essentials, as well as the qualifications, are expensive.

This might leave their Independent Distributors with little to no sales; perhaps that’s one reason why they are not transparent with their Income Disclosure Statement.

While there’s an opportunity to make money from this, weigh your pros and cons. Unless you are skilled in marketing and networking, I won’t recommend GelMoment to you.
