Quick Summary: Powur is a network marketing company that lets you earn by selling solar panels. It also gives commissions for the sales that your downline makes, thus the need to recruit people to join the platform.

In this post, I’ll talk about Powur -- a network marketing company that promotes solar panels. While the idea of going green and installing these panels is great, the questions lie on the business opportunity.

Is Powur a scam? What are its pros and cons? Can you really make money from this program?

What Is Powur About?

Powur is a multi-level marketing (MLM) company that encourages sustainable energy through solar panels.

If you have just heard solar panels for the first time or you are still confused about it, I’ll try to explain it to you in the simplest terms. It is a device used by houses or buildings to transform light into electricity.

Basically, it uses the sun as its source of light to generate electricity.

Because of the many benefits, it has, such as lower electricity bills, renewable energy sources, and low maintenance costs, it’s one of the most talked-about products as of today. But does it mean that it will be a profitable business for you?

Before I try to answer that, let’s talk more about the company.

Powur was founded by Jonathan Budd in 2014.

According to his LinkedIn account, he has been a leader for many companies, such as Global Transformation Council Inc., Empowered Entrepreneurs, Inc., Futuristic Marketing, LLC, and MyStand.

Jonathan-Budd of powur

He has always been passionate about environmental sustainability and entrepreneurship so I guess that he has a solid background when it comes to handling and encouraging people.

While Powur works using an MLM structure, it’s different from the usual brands since they are not distributing any tangible materials or items, such as slimming coffee and teas, nutritional drinks, health supplements, etc.

Also, Powur acts as an affiliate or distributor of another company called SolarCity -- a business that produces solar energy services. So technically, they work as a middleman between SolarCity and their clients.

But now, it opened up to other suppliers, such as Titan, Skyline Solar, CamSolar, SunPower, Elevation, Baker Electric Solar, Solar Energy World, and SolTerra.

The good thing about this is that these companies are all legit and their customers can find the best one that could fit their needs.

What you need to analyze is how worthy their income potential is. Since they are already middlemen, the profit margin for you might get slim. Remember, this is an MLM; meaning, you will recruit your downline and your downline will do the same and so on.

That being said, their profit is lower and can get lower and lower. But still, the price for a solar panel is not less than $100, so more or less, it’s still enough if you can make this work.

The other challenge is the details you need to know as a distributor. The solar panel alone is a bit complicated in terms of how it works; now you need to know each provider to explain it well to your customer and of course, there are technical terms to deal with. Imagine the things you need to know so you can help your client decide. But if you are passionate about this technology - you will be just fine.

Power Product Line

As mentioned, you will be promoting solar panels but instead of having the actual product, you are not going to present any physical essentials. Rather, you will act as an affiliate of Powur so you can earn commissions for every successful sale.

And that’s the challenge. Since there’s no consumable product to deal with, you should think of ways on how you can persuade people to buy from you. It’s tricky because there’s no way to prove it unless it has been installed in their homes already.

How To Make Money With Powur?

As an MLM company, you have two options to make money from them: selling and recruiting.

According to their income system, you earn a 70% commission from your retail sales while Powur gets the remaining 30%. It looks great considering that you’re getting most of the profit but remember, Powur is the middleman. They are already earning for promoting these solar services alone and they’re earning another percentage for your work.

Another way is to recruit people to join the platform. You get a 20% commission from Powur for each member you have successfully invited to join the group. You also get commissions from the sales that your downline makes.

Is Powur A Scam?

Powur is not a scam. It’s a legit MLM company that you can make money from in case you’re interested in solar panels.

However, there are some of the pitfalls, such as the product itself. While it’s beneficial, especially environmentally speaking, it’s not easy to sell it considering the price of solar panels. The installation of SolarCity’s solar panel, for instance, can cost around $12,000 to $20,000.

The commission is huge, so at least that is rewarding but you will have to do considerable amount of work to sell Solar panels.

Also, there are no tangible products to sell that you can present to your customers unlike other MLM companies that let you purchase their skincare products or health essentials.

Another thing is the limitation of your profit. Apparently, you are only qualified to earn commissions when Powur can obtain around $1,500. So if they were not able to earn that amount, you have no earnings, too.

If this doesn’t sit well on you, I suggest that you try affiliate marketing instead.

It’s almost the same as the multi-level marketing businesses where you promote products and services you’re interested in. The difference is that it’s way better.

With affiliate marketing, there’s no need to purchase anything or pay for any membership fees to earn commissions; all you have to do is create content or post your unique link on your social media accounts.

Once a buyer purchases the item or completes a task using your link, you earn a commission.

Easy, right?

The catch is, you have to drive traffic to your website or have a solid following so there’s a chance for your link to be noticed.

UPDATE for 2021

Powur has provided a lower membership fee starting with $99. This gives the distributor or Advocate as they call it, a chance to earn $500 per installation. You can also join as an Advisor for $299. This lets you earn not only from your own sales but from the sales that your team makes.

This includes the license you need to sell SolarCity’s panels plus the only training that will help you start and grow your business.

It’s a significant amount, especially if you’re a beginner so before joining, this makes sense if you are confident this is the opportunity you were looking for.

Otherwise, there are other legit opportunities to choose from, such as affiliate marketing or if you’re into network marketing, you can check the MLM platforms I’ve reviewed in the past.

Pros/Cons

PROS

Sustainable Product

With what’s happening to the world today, such as global warming, it’s good to promote such products.

It’s a good business, too because of the many benefits it provides to the users, like cheaper electricity bills and low maintenance costs.

CONS

Limited Income

As mentioned above, you are only qualified to obtain commissions if the brand has earned at least $1,500 in sales. What if it did not reach its quota? Does that mean that your efforts will go to waste?

Are you willing to take that risk knowing that you have also paid for a massive membership fee?

Challenging To Sell

The price of the device plus its installation is not affordable. Imagine, you have to spend around $10,000 to $15,000 and that depends on the brand of solar service you choose. As a distributor, it will be challenging to market this product and close a deal.

Unless you’re skilled in this kind of product and business model, it’s best to look for another source of income.

Who Is It For?

Powur is ideal for anyone who knows solar panels. Of course, as a business, you have to know how the product and each solar panel service work since you have to explain it to your customers and answer their questions.

It’s also good for those who have experience with MLM in the past since you have an idea of how you would sell and recruit people to earn bonuses and bigger commissions.

Final Opinion/Verdict

The concept of power is not unique but it’s good considering the real intention of using solar panels. It’s not that I don’t recommend it; it’s just that I want you to be sure if this is what you really want.

It’s not easy to make $500 so if you are willing to spend for the membership fee, make sure that you are committed to the type of business that you are about to enter. Remember, you’re not just selling products; you also have to invite people to join the platform to earn commissions.
