GetUpside App Review – Is This Cashback App Worth It?

To all skinflints out there, a cashback app is always a good idea and perhaps, you've come across GetUpside and that’s probably why you’re here. Well, you’re in the right place as you will know more about this app as we go through this review! 

Is it legit or is it a scam? 

Would the cash back you earn be worth it? Or are the claims just deceiving you? We will answer that and more in this GetUpside review!

Basically, GetUpside is a cashback app that lets you earn and save money every time you dine, shop, and fuel up with affiliated restaurants, stores, and gas stations. 

As they claim, they not only let people earn cashback but also help businesses make more. Its mission is to enrich communities by connecting businesses to people, enabling all to thrive.

GetUpside had its humble beginnings way back in November of 2015 and it is now headquartered in Washington, D.C. USA and is available in major cities, such as Florida, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas. 

It’s almost the same as Saivian, BeFrugal, and Earny.

GetUpside is claimed to be a money-saving app that was developed by Wayne Lin and Alex Kinnier who serve as the CEO and COO, respectively. 

Wayne Lin and Alex Kinnier have impressive resumes and are apparently former Google employees, Wayne Lin as Associate Product Marketing Manager and Alex Kinnier as a Group Product Manager. 

They also worked at Opower, a local tech firm that was bought by Oracle (a database management company) for millions of dollars. And it was in 2015 when they started GetUpside.

Other co-founders include Joanna Kochaniack (Technology Officer), Rick McPhee (Head of Engineering), and Jan Rubio (Engineering Manager). 

Other leaders that spearhead GetUpside include Daryl Ribeiro (Chief Financial Officer), Kristen Thiede (Chief People & Business Development Officer), Arman Ghosh (President of Restaurants), Tyler Renaghan (Vice President of Grocery), Laura (Head of People), Kristen Bierman (Head of Operations) and Sean Carr (Chief Revenue Officer).

There is no doubt that GetUpside App is not a scam. It appears to be a legit cashback that enables you to earn and save money every time you shop, dine, or fuel up with its partner establishments.  

Yes, indeed you can save some money when you use the app but you can only earn some amount, talking about a few cents. 

If you don't mind saving a few cents, you could go for this. 

It’s just good as a side spare time hustle and really far off to be a full-time source of income but it’s also good that they offer a referral program that lets you also earn additional cash. 

So as mentioned, GetUpside enables you to earn and save money every time you dine, shop, and fuel up with affiliated restaurants, stores, and gas stations. 

Once registered, and you start shopping or buying to affiliated establishments, you just have to take a photo of the receipt issued by the establishment and then upload the picture using the GetUpside app and wait to verify the transaction before you can earn the cashback. 

The cashback is usually credited to your account within 24 to 48 hours and you can cash it out via check or PayPal. 

Cashback

The majority of your earnings here are from the cashback you got from what you had spent your money with. The cashback amount varies for different products. 

Car and Fuel related

• Gas - You can get up to 25¢ per gallon 
• Car Washes - You can get up to a 50% rebate 
• Car Services - You can get up to 40% cashback

DINING - You can get up to 35% cashback 

SUPERMARKETS - You can get as much as a 15% rebate when you buy groceries at affiliated supermarkets

So, basically cashback can really vary depending on the store, type of product, and service.

According to them, they have partnered with more than 5,000 gas stations and the participating brands include Shell, Marathon, Sunoco, Exxon, BP, and more. 

These are in D.C. Delaware, Florida, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, and Virginia, etc.

It may be in the US but it’s still limited. 

While the cities and partner establishments for groceries and restaurants are even more limited. Partner restaurants include Little Dipper Hot Pot, Angelico, and Botanero and they are only available in Austin, Houston, and D.C. areas. 

You can only shop in supermarkets around the D.C. area. Featured stores for groceries include Streets Market & Cafe and Moti's Market. 

Referral Program

Other than the cashback, it's good that GetUpside also offers another way to earn additional cash and that is through their referral program. You can earn extra when you share the app with your friends.

All you have to do is just simply share the promo code that can be found in your profile. However, this referral bonus is limited only to gas stations and has not been applied to restaurant and grocery purchases.

2 components:

• First-Purchase Bonus - Referring a new user to the app will give you a bonus the first time they fuel up. Their purchase must be $10 or more to be successfully linked as your referral. You can get a $.20 discount the next time you fuel up. You will also get an additional $.02 off each time your friend purchases at least $10 of gas at that pump. 
• Per-gallon Earnings - Once your referral becomes a GetUpside user, you'll also get a bonus for every gallon of gas they buy in the future, and a bonus every time one of their referrals gets gas. 

Joining GetUpside is free and it's pretty simple. You just have to download, install the app, and register on your mobile phone. 

The app is available in the app store or you can get it on Google play. You can also choose to sign up on the website and just simply link your social media accounts such as Facebook.

PROS

Free

It’s good that you can have a cashback opportunity while you go shopping, dining, and fueling up with GetUpside affiliated stores. It’s good to earn a little something for an opportunity that you joined for free.

Referral Program

Though earning is limited in this cashback app, it’s good that they incorporated a referral program for extra cash earning. However, it’s only limited to gas transactions.

Transparent

I also like that GetUpside is transparent. I like that they really presented who the people behind the company are. And it’s a great thing because it can somehow establish a sense of trust and security.

CONS

Limited

Not only that it’s limited in terms of partnered stores but it’s also not available in all cities in the US. So, if that’s the case, you'll really have a hard time earning cents. Another limitation is that the referral program is only available for fueling up services. 

Credit Or Debit Card Transactions Only

Another limitation of GetUpside is that it is only available for credit or debit card owners as the transactions are easier to track compared to cash. So, if you don't have a credit or debit card, you can’t afford this opportunity. 

Limited Income

Yes, you’ll definitely gain some earnings, a few cents or so. Therefore, this is not an earning opportunity suitable if you would want a full-time source of income. 

Well, this App was designed for people who would want to save even a few cents from their purchases. It’s also only for those who have credit or debit cards as transactions are only through this. 

But then again, it’s just basically some side-extra income opportunity and is not for those desiring to earn a full-time income.  

Well, once registered, you can access your dashboard in the mobile app or through the website. FAQs are also made available. 

For support, you can connect with them through their social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and linked in. 

Overall, I could say that GetUpside is a legit cashback opportunity; however, it’s even far from being a decent earning opportunity. 

It’s also very limited as there are not that many affiliated establishments and it’s not available in most cities in the US. 

Well, but as a money-saving app, it can only give some extra earnings, a few cents maybe. 

If you’re not looking for a full-time income, this can be a cash back opportunity you could gain something from but if you’re looking for a lucrative full-time source of income, this is not something you should really invest the most of your time in and effort in. 

So, for me, definitely not recommending you for this opportunity.
