Therefore, before you join an opportunity, it’s best to do a background check first. Yes, it could be the most enticing offer you’ll get but to avoid losing a lot of cash or worst, getting scammed, find out what that company is really about.
So in this post, we’ll discuss a well-known brand called Kannaway.
What Is Kannaway About?
If there’s one unique selling point for Kannaway, that would be their products. Everything is based on hemp -- a type of Cannabis sativa plant that contains higher cannabidiol (CBD) and lower tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
Just a heads up, CBD is non-intoxicating, unlike THC. Meaning, it won’t make you high and it provides therapeutic benefits instead, such as muscle and joint pain relief. Nevertheless, many people assume that hemp and marijuana are the same, thus it’s illegal in many states and countries.
Kannaway was founded by Jeff Rogers and Christopher Hussey in 2015
According to Jeff’s LinkedIn profile, he became the President of various companies, such as Bog Dot 1, Card Global, Inc., and TCN, then he became the CEO of Kannaway but only for three years. After that, he left the company and became the head of Sanki Global, another MLM company under the health and wellness niche.
Jeff was then replaced by Blake Schroeder as CEO in 2016.
Christopher, on the other hand, has little to no details about him online other than that “he has a background in MLM.” However, there’s no mention of specific companies he’s been involved with.
Kannaway Product Line
Kannaway is under the health and wellness niche and its products are mainly divided into six categories, including:
Nutrition
This consists of the supplements and powder drink of Kannaway that claims to build muscles, lose body fat, and support digestive health.
Skin Care
These are the hemp-based skin care essentials, such as moisturizers, cleansers, serum, and salve.
Essential Oils
These are hemp-based essentials oils in three variants: Tranquility, Immunity, and Energy.
Hempy’s
This is the apparel side of Kannaway wherein they sell labeled-products, such as belts, beanies, socks, leggings, and bags.
Echo
ECHO -- or Education, Collaboration, and Hope -- is an organization that aims to educate families who are seeking CBD for its therapeutic benefits, such as a relief in depression, anxiety, and muscle pain. It’s also known to alleviate seizures and improve sleep.
Instead of buying a product, Kannaway has provided a way for customers to support ECHO through donations with denominations starting from €5 to €100 or $5.41 to $100.41.
Business Tools
These are the marketing tools you can use as a distributor, including brochures and digital gift cards.
All of their products come in individual and bundle packs, too.
How To Make Money With Kannaway?
As usual, there are two ways to make money with Kannaway.
Being an MLM company, you can earn by selling their products based on the brand’s suggested retail price. This lets you earn around 30% commission, which is really good. Most MLM companies I’ve reviewed in the past offer 20% to 25% commissions.
To learn more about Kannaway’s compensation plan, you can watch the video below:
Another way to earn is by recruiting people to join the platform but instead of directly compensating members for this, they earn commissions from the sales that their downlines make -- and this is what separates a legit MLM to a pyramid scheme.
Many people are confused with this business model, thinking that network marketing is the same as Ponzi schemes or other scams; however, there’s a fine line between the two.
First of all, MLM -- or also known as multi-level marketing, network marketing, or simply networking -- is a legit business model. It offers tangible products or services that add value to one’s life.
They compensate people for the sales that their downline makes, thus the idea for recruiting and making a bigger team.
A Ponzi scheme or a pyramid, on the other hand, has no products to offer and if they do, they only use it as a disguise for their main intention. The goal of this business model is to invite “investors” who will invest in their company and they can make money from it by recruiting people.
Without recruits, there’s no other way to make money. That being said, this business is not sustainable and is often to shut down only after a few months. Also, this kind of business model is illegal in most states and countries.
Here’s a quick video explaining the difference of MLM from a pyramid scheme:
Is Kannaway A Scam?
Kannaway is not a scam. It’s a legit MLM company that promotes CBD or hemp-based products, such as essential oils. It’s new but it’s not unique. In fact, we’ve reviewed MLM companies with similar products in the past, such as:
It’s still a new company though so it’s early to assume things. Also, despite being legit, there are a few drawbacks, such as the low-income potential, overpriced products, and the expensive membership fee.

Pros/Cons
PROS
Legit Company That Supports CBD
It’s good to know that the company is legit and that the people behind it are real and not hiding under pen names. Also, the product they choose to promote, although deemed illegal by many states and countries, is known for its health benefits.
CONS
Expensive Membership Fees
To become a member and to keep your account qualified for commissions, you have to pay around $300. This does not include the PV you have to maintain every month.
For newbies and even those who have experience with MLM, this is a huge amount and the most troubling part is the challenge to sell their products. It’s expensive and the market for health and wellness essentials is saturated. Plus, hemp-based products can be sold in limited locations only.
Overpriced Products
Their Power Protein, which claims to help lose body fat, costs $72.57. There are other brands online, and most of which are well-known that costs less than $30.
Overpriced products, by the way, are normal for MLM companies and that is one of the main problems of their distributors. It’s hard to sell expensive essentials after all and not to mention, it has a limited market.
No Income Disclosure Statement
After 6 years in the industry, Kannaway has failed to disclose the earnings of their members. It’s almost impossible that they keep on forgetting about this so there’s probably one reason why they don't share their Income Disclosure Statement and maybe it’s because their Brand Ambassadors are not earning at all.
Expensive Membership Fee
The membership fee plus the Starter Pack costs $300 and this does not include the products you need to purchase every month.
Do you think you can get your investment back considering the price of the product plus the need to recruit people? Not to be biased but we don’t think so. We mean, most people don’t understand how MLM works and even if they do, it would still be impossible to make money from it because there are other cheaper and better alternatives online.
Limited Market
While hemp is beneficial for health, it’s not allowed in many countries and states. That said, your market is limited. Other than this, you have to consider your competitors, too. Unless you know how to make your brand or business stand out, there’s a chance that you won’t be earning at all.

Who Is It For?
It’s good for anyone who supports CBD for its therapeutic benefits or has personally tried Kannaway’s products and liked it. It’s also ideal for those who have experience with MLM in the past.
Training Tools/Support
Training is included in the fee you have paid to become a member. Also, like usual MLM companies, you can expect training from the leaders and your uplines, too.
Final Opinion/Verdict
Kannaway is a legit company that offers good products; however, we don’t find anything unique about it. It’s still new though so perhaps, it might take some time to have more improvement. It’s good to know that the brains behind the brand though are real and are showing up.
However, there are drawbacks that you should think about first. For one, are you fine with the company not being transparent with their Income Disclosure Statement? Will you be able to trust a brand that doesn’t show its members’ earnings? How can you be sure that you will earn from this program?
Another thing is the overpriced products. Yes, this is normal for MLM companies, basically to provide its members with bigger incentives and commissions. However, there’s nothing really unique about the products so it’s hard to tell that the essentials are worth its price.
Lastly, you compensate more only if you recruit and it’s pretty understandable why this is a drawback. One, most people are not comfortable with sending messages just to invite another person to join the platform, and two, even if you are fine with the recruitment, it won’t be easy since many people avoid MLM because of the negative stigma it has.
