what is tropic skincare about

What Is Tropic Skincare About?

Tropic Skincare is a multi-level marketing (MLM) company that sells all-natural cosmetics and skincare products. It is based in the United Kingdom, specifically at Croydon, South London.

Softly launched in 2004 by Susie Ma (or also known as Susan Ma), it was only in 2011 when the brand was formally introduced.

The first product was mainly body scrubs, which she made herself and as years go by, more products were added.

In 2011, Susan made a stint on the seventh season of The Apprentice UK, a British business-styled reality game show. Not only was she a runner-up, but she also made an impression with Lord Alan Sugar, an entrepreneur, and the TV show's host. Soon after, the business is also jointly owned by Lord Alan Sugar himself.

In 2013, Tropic Skincare launched its Social Selling Business Platform with 400 founding salespeople.

Ever since, it has increased its product range to include skincare, body care, hair care, sun care, tanning serums, and products that are also designed for men.

tropic skincare founder Susie Ma

Susie Ma is a British-Chinese skincare entrepreneur, philanthropist, and Forbes 30 Under 30 honouree. Susie grew up in Cairns, Tropical North Queensland, Australia where she was surrounded by an abundance of natural ingredients, such as aloe vera and exotic fruit trees.

Perhaps, this created a huge impact on her that made her decide to manufacture natural products. In addition, her grandmother, who was a medicinal chemist and toxicologist taught her the importance of using healthy, nourishing, and natural ingredients to the skin.

It’s almost the same as Jordan Essentials, Juuva, and Elepreneurs.

Tropic Skincare Product Line

Basically, Tropic Skincare manufactures its own line of all-natural and cruelty-free skincare and cosmetic products. They’ve also added in their product line products for body care, hair care, sun care, tanning serums, and those that are designed for men.

Below are some of the listed categories on their website:

  • Skincare – Cleanse, tone and moisturize, eyes and lips, serums and oils, masks and exfoliation, the skincare collection
  • Bath and Body – Body creams and oils, bath and shower, hands and feet, tanning and bronzing, body care collections
  • Makeup – Color palette, face, and cheeks, eyes and brows, lips, brushes, and tools
  • Hair Care – Hair wash. hair cleanser, and hair conditioner

Apparently, these natural and cruelty-free products from Tropic Skincare are quite affordable. Yes, it does all of it without compromising product quality. The company had even received various awards for this cause.

Is Tropic Skincare A Scam?

Tropic Skincare appears to be a decent MLM company. It is not a scam as it comes with a legitimate business opportunity with tangible quality products and a compensation plan that allows their affiliates or their Tropic Ambassadors to earn.

Their products are of quality and are even quite affordable. It’s all-natural, safe, and cruelty-friendly. With this, they have even received numerous awards and certifications provided by well-known associations, such as the Vegan Society, PETA, and Cruelty-Free International.

They are also a CarbonNeutral and Ethically accredited company.

The founder also revealed that 90% of the company's ambassadors are not business builders. Hence, Tropic Skincare as a business organization doesn't feel that sharing the business plan publicly is relevant.

Tropic Skincare does not want to provide misleading earning promises to the public and make them risk all they have to the brand, which is a good thing.

They don’t have a Better Bureau Business Profile, which is understandable since the company is based in the UK.

Is Tropic Skincare A Pyramid Scheme/Ponzi Scheme?

We may coin MLMs as pyramid schemes because of the recruitment hype; however, Tropic Skincare is one of those MLMs that don’t focus much on recruitment.

It is not a Ponzi nor a pyramid scheme, too as it comes with a legit opportunity and retail products that allow you to earn through retail sales. Their focus is more on the products and their campaign on skincare wellness using all-natural and safe essentials.

Yet, just like most MLMs, bigger income comes as you build your own team of downlines so if you want to earn more, you also need to spend time recruiting and training your people.

Tropic Skincare Compensation Plan

On their website, it is stated that ambassadors get incentive rewards including luxury trips and 25% commission on orders.

They don’t have complete details with regards to their compensation plan on their website simply because their focus is more on marketing their product. However, for information’s sake, below are some details I’ve got through some searches online.

Being an MLM, you’ll earn from retail and recruitment commissions. Success plan, especially the items relating to monthly sales requirements, does not apply to ambassadors who do not wish to be business builders.

Being an MLM, it comes with Affiliate Ranks with requirement and qualifications:

  • Active Ambassador - PS (Personal Sales) £250
  • Senior Ambassador - PS £500, 1 active ambassador
  • Team Ambassador - PS £500, CTS GBP2000, 3 active ambassadors
  • Manager - PS £500, CTS (central team sales) £4000, 5 active members
  • Senior Manager - PS £500, CTS £4000, EG(entitled generation sales) £8000, 5 active members, 1 manager
  • Executive Manager - PS £500, CTS £4000, EGS £25000, 5 active managers, 2 managers
  • Platinum Executive Manager - PS £500, CTS £4000, EGS £50000, 5 active managers, 4 managers
  • Diamond Executive Manager - PS £500, CTS £4000, EGS £100000, 5 active managers, 8 managers

*There is a 50% Rule on CTS and EGS as well that applies to Team Ambassador or higher.

Personal Sales Bonus - In addition to the above-mentioned retail sales bonus of 25%, a personal sales bonus of 1.5% to 10% is awarded to ambassadors depending on their ranks and personal sales volume. So, ambassadors can earn as much as a 35% retail sales bonus depending on his/her sales.

Team Mentor Bonus - A business builder is entitled to a 2-3% bonus for the sales of his/her personally sponsored ambassador sales.

Central Team Sales Bonus - Managers or higher ranks are rewarded with a 4% bonus for their central team sales volume.

Generation Bonus - Senior managers or higher ranks are entitled to a generation bonus of 1-4% up to level 4 depending on their actual ranks.

Pros/Cons

PROS

All Natural, Safe, And Cruelty Friendly Products

Indeed, Tropic Skincare is all-natural, safe, and cruelty-friendly products, which means that there are no animals harmed during the making or testing of products.

The brand also lives and breathes by what it refers to as "green science innovation," which is applied to every aspect of the business — from the vegan and sustainably sourced ingredients, which they get from areas like the Amazon rainforest and Australia.

It’s also eco-friendly as they use recyclable packaging, starting from the products up to the shipping boxes.

Numerous Awards And Certifications

The company is now certified carbon-neutral, which means that the carbon emissions caused by the company have been balanced out by its efforts in environmental projects. The brand is also recognized by the following entities, such as the Vegan Society, PETA, and Cruelty Free International.

Quality Products

Taking into consideration what it is above, all-natural -- eco-friendly, cruelty-free, and safe -- Tropic Skincare products are really of quality. It’s quite affordable compared to other MLM products yet the quality of their essentials was not compromised.

It’s not surprising that they have a lot of positive reviews of their products.

90-Day Happiness Refund

It’s good that Tropic Skincare allows a 90-Day Happiness Guarantee on their Starter Kits, so if you decide being an Ambassador isn’t for you, they’ll offer you a full refund.

CONS

Compensation Plan Provided But Not Complete

Tropic's compensation plan was not provided on their website. Probably, with the notion that their cause is more on the market of their products and their propaganda of offering safe, natural, and cruelty-free products.

While it’s a good thing, I believe that providing their compensation plan and other crucial information is a must since they are still offering an income opportunity to the public.

Challenge To Make An Income

Yes, you can definitely earn as a Tropic Ambassador, yet, how you generate sales as an is still up to your performance. You’ll have to be creative and strategic but of course, it’ll definitely take a lot of work to gain the lucrative income you desire.

Also, while recruitment is not the focus of the brand, it comes with bigger commissions and can help you rank higher and faster so you still have to put any effort into this aspect.

Final Opinion/Verdict

Tropic Skincare comes as a legit MLM business. It also has a good reputation and standing in the eyes of consumers and natural skincare advocates that also promote cruelty-free and eco-friendly products.

However, as a business opportunity, it’s not the best business or income opportunity that I could recommend to you. Though recruitment is not the sole focus, being an MLM, you’ll still opt for recruitment as a bigger commission goes with it.

Unless you’re fully an advocate of natural skincare, particularly their brand, it’s best to look for a better option, such as the one below.
